Lay of the Land: The Homunculus Isles

The Homunculus Isles are a five island archipelago in the Rincefire Ocean. First discovered during the great age of discovery, the islands have been since colonised by all nations of settlers from the mainland.

Pedalast is the easternmost island. A narrow, largely sandy isle that's home to various species of indigenous lizards and the Halflings in the floating homestead of Flinia.

Pyarnas is a long island, largely covered with dense jungle. Many Druids stay in the jungles to catalogue all that lives there, and defend it from the Orc and Gnoll tribes that live on the island.

Honde is the smallest island. Comprised largely of steep, jagged cliffs, and stone stacks off the coast resembling fingers. Under the control of the King of Heartbeats, it is the site of Tenaci, the Honden Jail.

Cardios is the largest island. A wide landscape with mountains to the west, near the neck gulf, open Savannah and grasslands. At the north and south are the twin cities Aorta and Acromion, situated on the island's north and south coasts, joined by The Great Vein road. Smaller settlements across the island include Suopik, Ghewith, and Stahlkür. Atop the Stahlken mountains, is the ancient monastery named the Death Watcher Rookery, who's acolytes worship The Grey Lady and spread her messages.

Stromcliff is a small island just south of Acromion. A very small rock, that can be circled in just under an hour, it is the location of The Stromcliff School of Meteomancy.

Visla is the westernmost island of the chain. It is separated by a short stretch of water from Cardios called the Neck Gulf, showing the natural place where the islands separated between the Stahlken mountains and Lod Fretruad (Turgord Dwarvish: The Features). Inside The Features is Dhrug, the Renegade Township. In the northwest of the island is Oculus, The Hanging City.

The islands are governed independently, but the Lords of Oculus and King of Heartbeats have accords to discuss the other islands at least once a year.

Lay of the Land: The World Itself

The Good Realm of Perdition is a planet much larger than the natives know of, and much more unexplored than those would first suspect.

Over three fifths of the civilised people live in Commodious, a super continent some 100 square kilometres (over three times the size of Africa). Ranging from vast deserts in the south-east, to grasslands in the north-west, with the world's tallest mountains at its very heart.

In the earliest memories of the world, the continent was divided into six nations. Around the time of the Magical Cleansing, the nations were absorbed and the islands across the ocean were colonised by a single governing body which came to be called The Commodion Council of Thirty, unifying the known world under a single ruling force, a self-conflicted but cohesive utopia which lasted over a thousand years. In the year 1313MC, The Age of Magical Cleanliness ended with the dissolution of the Council of Thirty, and over a period of seven years, the nations reformed.

Across the water are hundreds of small islands, many scattered, but some clustered around greater islands, forming enormous island chains.

The Homunculus Isles are a string of five islands in the Rincefire Ocean, resembling from above, a man part submerged underwater. Each island is governed independently, but has a shared history as part of an island chain.

The Northern Havens are a chain of twelve islands in the Northcold. Except for the island of Yilaria, all of the islands are in a harsh winter for all months of the year. Each island is governed individually through either feudal lords of Thriist, roving barbarian tribes, Giants, or Dragons.

The Veiled Rock is a large, sub-continent, that emerged from the Sea of Bohir short days after the end of The Age of Magical Cleansing. During the Resurrection of Nations, many people from Commodious and the archipelagos settled on the new land and founded colonies on the land, independent of each other, as separate nations.

The Misty Isles are four small islands just off the northeast coast of The Veiled Rock. Situated inside a great mist off the north coast of Commodious, the fog is thick and has a light, natural enchantment that makes one strongly drowsy. These islands are largely jungle, and the fog itself sometimes passes over, but isn't strong enough to deter any settlers.

Okarthel is a large island populated entirely by Dragons. It was created by Dragons during the period of Magical Cleansing to act as a place of sanctuary during the Great Slaying. It is still largely governed by Dragons and individual slaves brought with them.

The Emblazoned Coals are a group of five islands in the Emblazoned Coals. They're known for tempestuous weather and frequent volcanic activity. They are almost solely populated by elemental creatures, Fire Giants, and Primords.

An Introduction

Welcome.

This blog is created with the purpose of being a thorough compendium of a fantasy setting of my own creation: The Good Realm of Perdition.

This blog will contain detailed description of locations, races, key individuals throughout its history, cosmology, explanations of its unique phenomena, economics, geography, and a lot more. The reason for my collating all this knowledge is to free up space in my head to create more fictional content about the setting, and get everything written down to make it all seem real. I am in the process of writing stories set in Perdition in novel and graphic novel form, so that anyone who reads those texts can look here for context.

All content posted here is of my creation; though some of the inspirations may be clear, the content and the details are my own.

Happy reading.
